Asher Flynn

Chief Investigator

Dr Asher Flynn is a Professor of Criminology and a Chief Investigator and Deputy Lead of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW).

Asher is an award-winning and widely published researcher in policy and prevention concerning gendered, sexual and technology-facilitated violence and has shaped almost a decade of research, theory and measurement of these global phenomena. Her research has informed the introduction of federal and state laws across Australia, the UK and the USA. In 2021, Asher was appointed to Meta’s Global Women’s Safety Board, and in 2024, she was appointed to the expert panel on technology-facilitated gender based violence for the Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs of France. Among other roles, Asher leads an Australian Research Council Discovery Project examining sexualised deepfake abuse across Australia, the USA and the UK. She has received many awards, and was the first researcher outside STEM to receive the Monash University Vice Chancellor’s Research Impact Award for her work on technology-facilitated gender-based violence.
