Debbie Bargallie is a descendant of the Kamilaroi and Wonnarua Aboriginal peoples of New South Wales and of the Punjab Langrial Muslim Jat clan from the Indian subcontinent – histories that shape her research and unwavering commitment to justice. She is Professor – Principal Research Fellow with the Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (GCSCR) and Griffith Institute for Educational Research (GIER) at Griffith University. Debbie’s primary research focuses on the critical theorisation of race and racism. In 2025, Dr Bargallie was appointed to the Australia Research Council (ARC) College of Experts and elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities (FAHA).  Dr Bargallie is Honorary Professor at Macquarie University with the Centre of Critical Indigenous Studies and Adjunct Professor with Universitas Pesantren Tinggi Darul Ulum (UNIPDU) in Jombang, East Java, Indonesia – reflecting her commitment to global Indigenous solidarity and decolonial scholarship. Dr Bargallie serves as President of the Queensland Muslim Historical Society and Director of the Queensland Muslim Cultural and Heritage Centre (QMCHC) –  an extension of the new Brisbane Islamic Centre
