Dr Natasha Khan is the Coordinator/ Lecturer for the University of the South Pacific (USP)’s Leadership, Governance and Human Rights (LGHR) programme and started this programme from its inception in 2012. Natasha is from Suva, Fiji and completed her BA from USP, has a Master’s in Social Policy from Swansea University (UK) and a PhD in Politics/Law from the University of York (UK). Her research interests are coup d’états, human rights and development, human rights defenders, corruption, women & child rights, cyberbullying, faith, culture and human rights. Her methodological expertise is using human rights-based approaches in all her research. Natasha is passionate about empowering women and children and works closely with some schools, faith groups and selected communities on these issues. She is currently involved in research on Labour Mobility and its Impact on Children Left Behind (4-country study); Cyberbullying in Fiji Universities; Concept of Belonging among Muslims in Fiji and Use of Perusall as a Study Tool among USP students.
Natasha is the current Chair for the Pacific Human Rights Defenders Network and has been since early 2022; an Expert Member of The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crimes (GI-TOC); One of the three Co-Chairs of the Pacific Human Rights Regional Coordinating Committee; and the Fiji Muslim League representative on the Fiji Higher Education Commission.
