Asad Islam

Chief Investigator

Asad Islam is a Professor of Economics and Chief Investigator of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence against Women (CEVAW).

Asad is also the Director of the Centre for Development Economics and Sustainability (CDES) and an affiliated Professor at Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Asad has conducted extensive field experiments and surveys across Asia and Africa. His research focuses on gender, discrimination, education and social networks. He is a leading expert in randomised controlled trials  and has published widely in top economics journals. His work is supported by various international grants, including those from the ARC, ESRC, DFID/FCDO, AusAID (DFAT), the IGC, the European Commission, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank.
