Tetei Bakic

HDR Candidate

Tetei Bakic is a PhD candidate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) at Macquarie University.

Tetei‘s research prioritises Indigenous knowledges to identify and rectify misinformation about Papua New Guinea in academic literature. As a descendant of Motu-Koita Villages, Gaire & Korobosea, Tetei shares personal experiences of Revareva, including those of her grandmother and great-grandmothers. Her work aims to disrupt the colonial violence of the archival recording of Papua New Guinean women and counter existing narratives, and highlight the contemporary continuation of traditional skin marking practices, contributing to the reclamation of Papua New Guinean cultural heritage.
