From Iran to Afghanistan to Myanmar, women activists are courageously responding to escalating threats to their human rights across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond. But as they fight back, repressive regimes are retaliating—what are the consequences? And what role can women leaders play in advancing peace and democratic change?
Join Natasha Mitchell and Professor Jacqui True, Director of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence against Women (CEVAW), in conversation with:
- Dr. Rana Dadpour – on Iran’s crackdown on the Women, Life, Freedom movement and the protests that captured the world’s attention in 2022-2023.
- Dr. Farkhondeh Akbari – on the Taliban’s imposition of extreme gender apartheid in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of international forces in August 2021.
- Ms. Isabella Aung – on four years of women’s resistance within the armed opposition since Myanmar’s military coup in February 2021.
This event spotlights leading local and international scholars working at the frontiers of women’s rights, offering critical insights into the fight for justice and equality.
Don’t miss this timely and important discussion.
