CEVAW Webinar: Preventing generated futures: Indigenous resistance to AI

The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is observed annually on 9 August. This day marks the anniversary of the first UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982 and was officially recognised in 1994.

This year’s 2025 theme — “Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures” — highlights the urgent need to centre Indigenous voices in the development and governance of AI.
