Partner Investigator

Assistant Professor, Dr Amporn Marddent, is a Partner Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW).

Amporn is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology at Thammasat University, Bangkok. She leads several research initiatives on women in peace process in Asia and Women, Peace, and Security in Southeast Asia. She founded the Centre of Excellence on Women and Social Security at Walailak University in Southern Thailand, where she also taught cultural studies. She has published on sexual violence, trafficking and migration in Thailand and the region, and contributed to policy research for UN agencies. She works both as an activist and an academic in cross-disciplinary approaches, comparative religion study, gender, anthropology and peace mediation, encouraging women and young people to work for equality and justice, particularly regarding the negative impact on inter-communal relationships between Muslims and non-Muslims during the decades of unrest in the Deep South Thailand.
