Elisabeta Torava

HDR Candidate

Elisabeta Torava (Elisabeta Waqa) is a PhD candidate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) at Monash University.

Elisabeta’s research specialises in Indigenous women’s empowerment and the unintended consequences of rights-based movements on violence against women (VAW) data. She holds a Master of Science in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development as well as a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Agricultural Economics. Her published work in conservation highlights the critical roles of Indigenous women in sustaining biodiversity. With lived experience and a trauma-informed approach, Elisabeta’s research bridges scholarship and practice, ensuring Indigenous women’s voices are centred in both policy and academic discourse.
