Vincent Hurley

Associate Investigator

Dr Vincent Hurley is an Associate Investigator with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW).

Lecturer and Course Director, Bachelor of Criminology at Macquarie University, Vince brings more than 30 years of hands-on experience in domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) policy and practice across frontline policing, senior government leadership and academia.
Vince served 29 years with the NSW Police Force – 22 as a Detective – investigating sexual assaults, child abuse, and working as a Hostage Negotiator for eight years. He went on to lead DFSV policy across NSW Police, develop cross-agency crime reduction strategies at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, and drive domestic violence reform priorities at the NSW Premier’s Delivery Unit.
Beyond his university role, he has spoken to approximately 30,000 people across Australia on DFSV issues. His reform work has been recognised with the Australian Institute of Criminology’s National Crime Prevention Award and a Highly Commended at the NSW Public Sector Awards of Excellence.
