Celeste Harris

HDR Candidate

Celeste Harris is a PhD candidate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women at the Griffith University node and a Senior Research Assistant with the Disrupting Violence Beacon.

Celeste’s research examines the intersection of climate-induced disasters and violence against women, using a multidisciplinary, feminist lens to explore conditions that create safety for women across communities, systems and structures.
She brings two decades of experience across social work, community development, environmental science, and disaster risk management. She has held leadership roles in community services, local government, and programs for women experiencing violence, alongside applied research. She has worked locally, nationally, and internationally, including disaster initiatives in Northern NSW and development work with ICIMOD in Nepal. Celeste has published in environmental and violence journals, including a recent systematic review on disasters and intimate partner violence in Trauma, Violence & Abuse. She holds a Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Sydney.
