Clara Ribeiro-Assumpção

HDR Candidate

Clara Ribeiro-Assumpção (she/her) is a PhD candidate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) at Monash University.

Clara is an international security researcher and practitioner focused on gender issues. Her work centres on integrating human rights and gender equality into approaches for preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism. She holds a Master’s degree in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies from the University of Glasgow, and is pursuing a PhD on Gender in Counterterrorism Policy at Monash University, where she also teaches. Clara also works as a consultant for the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism. In this role, she provides technical assistance on mainstreaming gender across a range of counterterrorism programmes and policies. Her research and advisory work aim to promote gender-sensitive, rights-focused solutions to pressing regional and global security challenges.
