Wilasinie Sopapol

HDR Candidate

Wilasinie Sopapol is a PhD candidate with the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW) at Griffith University.

Wilasinie’s doctoral research investigates Gendered Violence and (In)security in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GTSEZ), Lao PDR. Her research interests are diverse, encompassing peace and security, multiculturalism policy, transnational identity formation, minority rights, and the role of gender in violence and peacebuilding. She places a special emphasis on Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces (SBPs), the Myanmar migrant community and Laos. Wilasinie is the author of two key Thai-language books: Exploring Multiculturalism in the Context of Southern Border Security Work (2022) and Translocal Community: Identity Formation of Myanmar Migrant Workers in Thailand (2016). She had led several projects in Southern Thailand. These initiatives include the Peace Survey and Trust Building in the SBPs and the development of curricula aimed at promoting peaceful resolution within the region.
